Timer Instructions for Speech Contests

Speeches are to be 5 to 7 minutes in length for the humorous, international, and tall tales speech contests. Other speech contests may vary in time limits. Please check the current speech contest rule book for current information or contact your Area Governor.

Timing starts when the speaker begins talking.

Any speaker who talks less than 4 minutes 30 seconds or over 7 1/2 minutes will be disqualified.

  • The GREEN light will come on at 5 minutes.
  • The AMBER light will come on at 6 minutes.
  • The RED light will come on at 7 minutes.

At that point the speaker will have 30 seconds to finish their speech.
