contests and datelines.
Each
year District 11 holds various speech contests for Toastmasters
in their district. A speech contest allows a Toastmaster
to showcase their communication and presentation skills
in front of a large audience.
To
be eligible for the District contest, a Toastmaster
must compete at different levels starting at the club
level. Clubs having only one contestant may waive the
club competition and appoint the contestant to participate
in the area contest. If a contest is held, all
rules must be observed. Please see the Contest
Rules Brochure for complete details. The
competition levels are as follows:
- Club
level
- Area
level
- Division
level, and
- District
level.
- Regional
level, and
- International
level.
Typically,
two to three speech contests are held during the year.
A third speech contest may be added as determined each
year by the District Governor. For 2006-2007 Toastmasters
year, the contests scheduled are:
- The
Humorous Speech Contest starts in August with club
competitions; finishing with the District competition
held in October at the District Fall Conference.
Any registered Toastmaster could enter. Toastmasters
who are members of more than one club are welcome
to compete in each club.
- The
Evaluation Speech Contest begins in November with
club competitions; finishing with the District competition
held at Toastmasters Leadership Institute at Eli
Lilly in January. Any registered Toastmaster can
enter. Toastmasters who are members of more than
one club are welcome to compete in each club.
- The
International Speech Contest begins in February
with the District competition held in May at the
District Spring Conference. Winners at the District
level may have the chance to compete at the Region
or International level for the International Contest.
The person who wins the District 11 International
Contest at the District's Spring Conference will
be given opportunity to compete at International
Contest held during the Region V Conference in June.
The Region V contestant who places first in the
International speech contest will be invited to
the International Contest held at the International
Convention each year.
The
speech content for any contest must be substantially
original!
