I am very humbled for the opportunity to serve you as your Lt. Governor of Marketing for the year 2010-2011. Toastmasters’ has worked miracles with me and I want to be able to pay it forward by helping others achieve their goals. I believe that if we work together utilizing the TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) concept, we will not only achieve our goals but surpass them.

I first joined Toastmasters because of a fear of speaking before an audience of three (3) people and now I have little problem speaking before a crowd of 300 or more. However, I soon discovered that my strength is in leadership and my passion is in mentoring and motivating others to achieve their personal and professional goals.

In Toastmasters, I accomplished this by leading my club, my area, and my division to President’s Distinguished Status. I have personally sponsored and mentored dozens of new members and have helped charter three (3) new clubs.

In my former life, as a Deputy Chief Probation Officer for 24 years, I accomplished this by developing an Employee of the Month Program recognizing and honoring those that espoused the TEAMwork Concept in attitude and in practice. I also created a yearlong High Performance Leadership Institute for employees wishing to advance their careers. While there, I was responsible for 131 staff members, which included 13 management level employees.

Our District theme for 2010-2011 is “Building Dreams Together.” The Marketing TEAM which will be known as “The Dream Team” will focus on three major areas this year which are all designed to build a better toastmaster. The committees are:

Membership Committee – will have 2 subcommittees and will focus on:

  • Recruiting New Members – This subcommittee will develop innovative ideas on how the clubs can recruit new members. They will also provide educational seminars relevant to the new member.
  • Retaining Current Members – This subcommittee will focus on leadership development opportunities for our current members to help keep them engaged. They will focus on teaching our current members:
  • How to Effectively Mentor a New Member
  • How to Conduct Speech Crafts
  • How to Conduct Youth Leadership Programs

Marketing Committee will focus on extending the network of clubs within the District. This committee will be trained on:

  • How to Successfully Prospect for New Clubs
  • How to Sponsor a New Club
  • How to Mentor a New Club

Club Rescue Committee will focus on identifying those clubs that are in jeopardy of folding, have low membership, and or need assistance with programming. This committee will all be trained on:

  • How to Serve as a Club Coach
