| Hello
Fellow Toastmasters and most welcomed Guests,
Birthdays
and anniversaries are a time to celebrate, to
get together with friends and family, to have
fun, and to give/get cards to mark the occasion
and show how much you care. As Toastmasters, we
sometimes hear of the clubs that mark a milestone
of 10, 25, or 50 years. Those milestones are really
special! Let's make a choice to make each charter
date anniversary special whether it is our 6th
year, 17th, or 42nd.
Toastmasters
clubs are there to build skills and change lives.
How many lives have been changed since your club
chartered? How has your club affected your life?
An anniversary is a time to reflect on what has
happened and where you want to go.
For
this year, as your anniversary date draws near,
I ask that you
- Think
about what your life was like before Toastmasters.
Have you seen a change in your life? Have OTHERS
seen a change in YOU?
- Think
about all the members that came before you in
your club. What skills and relationships did
past members gain? How many lives has your Toastmasters
club touched?
- Think
about all the skills that they built during
their time being a Toastmaster. What changes
have you witnessed in others?
- Think
about how you and others have built lasting
relationships from being a Toastmaster. Do you
consider your Toastmasters club as a second
family?
Now,
that you have thought about all this. Write down
your thoughts as a testimonial for your club.
Send your testimonial with an announcement about
your club's charter anniversary included in your
article as a press release to your local newspaper
about 2 weeks before your charter anniversary
with enough time to print and have people contact
you about the article. Remember to include meeting
information, your contact information and/or website,
and what Toastmasters can
do for the person reading the news release.
I
will help you begin your press release...
"XYZ
Club celebrates # years in "city"
this month. Over the years, members have gained
. . and you can too."
If
you need assistance putting together a press release,
the Vice President of Public Relations manual
is a excellent resource for press releases. I
can be reached by email for any questions or if
you need assistance with your press release.
Warm
regards,
John
